We welcome transfer students from a variety of institutions both in the USA and abroad. Please visit the UArizona Office of Admissions website to apply. Prior to enrollment, you will have several tasks to complete, including a mandatory orientation with the CBC Advising Team. Please ensure that you check your email and complete all orientation tasks, including ordering an official transcript with your most recent grades to be sent to UArizona.

Prospective Transfer students are welcome to make an appointment with a CBC advisor and/or take a tour of the department before applying through our Prospective Student page. You can also search through the Articulation Office’s Transfer Credit Guide to find out if the classes you have taken will satisfy your Chemistry or Biochemistry degree requirements.

Schedule an appointment with Hibram or Carleen to start the process of adding or changing to a CBC major. The CBC department requires a 2.0 cumulative GPA, but even if your GPA is lower we will support you in taking the classes you need while you work on GPA recovery.

The priority registration period is restricted to current majors only. Please email cbc-advising@distribution.arizona.edu for assistance during the priority registration season: Priority registration usually lasts from the end of October through November for Fall semesters and from the end of March through April for Spring semesters.

If you have taken or are planning on taking courses at another institution, please speak to a major advisor about which courses will fulfill your degree requirements. You can also check for the equivalent courses using one of the links below:

If the Transfer Credit Guide does not list a direct equivalency for a UArizona course, you must complete the Credit Evaluation Form. If you are seeking an evaluation for a math course, please complete the Math Department’s evaluation form. You must obtain a syllabus in order to complete the form, and it is important to do this step as soon as possible due to extended wait times for evaluations.

Biochemistry  |  Chemistry

To declare a minor in Chemistry or Biochemistry, please either email cbc-advising@distribution.arizona.edu or visit us in-person or via Zoom during our drop-in hours.

All advisors can add a Biochemistry or Chemistry minor if they feel comfortable. Please visit either the CBC Biochemistry or Chemistry minors webpages for more information about the requirements.

Your faculty advisor is different than your academic advisor. Faculty advisors for BIOC majors provide advising and approval on independent study, directed research, and senior capstone options. Biochemistry faculty can also provide professional and graduate school advising.

Besides your academic advisor, faculty advisors can also help you identify and explore career options, help you develop a plan for reaching long-term goals; encourage you to take advantage of college success strategies and resources to help you reach academic goals; promote exploration of experiential-learning experiences and on-campus experiences to develop interpersonal and leadership skills, and explore career goals. We recognize that many of our current and prospective students are interested in Chemistry and Biochemistry degrees because they are competitive on a medical or other health profession postgraduate application. Through our partnership with the A Center’s Pre-Health Advising team, Chemistry and Biochemistry Academic Advisors are able to advise on classes students could take to meet prerequisite requirements and how they should fit these alongside their degree requirements.

The College of Science and the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry emphasize the importance of becoming involved in Undergraduate Research. Undergraduates have many opportunities to engage in a wide variety of research areas across campus pertaining to your specific interests and can either pursue paid or credit-bearing positions.

If you are curious about our program and the research our current undergraduates do, please take some time during the Spring semester to visit our annual CBC Poster Fair, which is open to the public.

If you are already in a lab and want to earn credit as a current CBC student, please complete the form and submit it to Olivia Mendoza by the first day of the semester. Students in research labs should designate the appropriate course numbers for “Directed Research”.
