Biochemistry Majors/Minors

Biochemistry Majors/Minors

Those who study biochemistry will apply chemistry to examine and explore the processes of life. Biochemistry can lead to careers in medicine, sustainability, agriculture, toxicology, pharmacology, and more!

Biochemistry student in lab.

Bachelor of Science (B.S.)

Students will gain in-depth chemical understanding and will also gain experience in laboratory research, with the requirement of at least 1 year in a lab, culminating in a Senior Capstone project. The B.S. is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in biochemical or life science research, or for students who intend to pursue a related field in postgraduate studies.

CBC students in class.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)

Students will gain a similar chemical understanding, but with its increased flexibility students will be encouraged to pursue double majors or minors in different areas of study. The B.A. is designed for students interested in non-laboratory professions

Biochemistry Minors

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry is proud to offer minor courses of study in both Chemistry and Biochemistry. Students who pursue one, or both, are often looking to gain a broader understanding of these subjects to complement their major field of study.
Students interested in deepening their chemical knowledge and gaining more experience in these subjects are encouraged to also consider our Bachelor of Arts option in either subject as a potential double major.
If you are interested in declaring the minor, please email cbc-advising@distribution.arizona.edu or attend our drop-in hours on Thursdays from 10 to 12pm in-person (CHEM 314) or via Zoom. Please find the checklists below:
