Congratulations to Sophia Shomper, a NSF Research Fellow!

"I am a Biochemistry major with a minor in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, as well as a thematic minor in Plant Chemistry at the University of Arizona. In my current research, I work in Dr. Chris Frost’s lab, where I study green leaf volatiles and how plants use these compounds as dynamic responses to environmental stress. I am fascinated by how plants “talk” to each other through chemistry, and particularly how they navigate herbivory and translate damage into signals that can impact their surrounding environments. 
The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship will directly support my research and training as I continue investigating plant chemical ecology and plant-herbivore interactions. 

My experience at the University of Arizona has been foundational to my growth, specifically working with Dr. Frost without whom I would not have this fellowship. I’ve been honored to work in a lab that’s both supportive and collaborative, and to have mentors who have encouraged me to be curious and pursue my passions. I am deeply grateful for this award and excited to continue exploring the questions that drive my interest in plant chemistry." ~ Sophia.
