Elena Hughes, an undergraduate CBC Chemistry major in Njardarson Group, was just awarded a University of Arizona Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) fellowship for Summer 2026!

This is a highly competitive and important honor that supports 50% of Elena's summer salary in the Njardarson Group for 2026 and participation in various aspects of the UBRP program during this time.

"Hi! My name's Elena and I'm a sophomore studying chemistry and biochemistry. For the past year, I've been involved in undergraduate research in Dr. Jon Njardarson's lab. Working in Jon's lab has been one of the most rewarding parts of my undergraduate experience so far, and I have learned so much from both Jon and my graduate student John Federice.

I am honored to have been given the opportunity to continue my research this summer through UBRP. This program is especially meaningful to me because it will allow me to deepen my skills and take on more responsibility than I could during the school year."
