CBC Hispanic Heritage Student Spotlight: Kristine Porter, Biochemistry

CBC continues to celebrate Hispanic Heritage! Join us as we highlight members of our community while they share their stories!

"Hi, my name is Kristine Maria Porter :) I'm an undergraduate junior majoring in Biochemistry and Chemistry with a minor in Math. Currently I am planning to pursue a master's in chemistry before applying to medical school.  

The reason I have this great opportunity to explore my passions and further my education is because of my parents. My mom immigrated here from Guatemala, which has given me opportunities that she didn't have access to. I'm so thankful for her sacrifices because they've allowed me to be here pursuing what I love.  

As a Latin-American, I am proud to represent my heritage in STEM. I hope to use my mother and my journey to encourage others to chase their goals. The CBC department has also been such a welcoming and supportive community on my journey as I grow as a student and as a person."
