CBC Hispanic Heritage Student Spotlight: Josefa Romero Jaramillo

CBC is showcasing Hispanic Heritage with Josefa Romero Jaramillo’s Summer in Spain. 

"Hi! I’m Josefa, a pre-med undergraduate studying Biochemistry. This summer, I spent 5 weeks in Madrid, Spain, shadowing at Hospital Universitario Infanta Elena and Hospital Universitario Rey Juan Carlos. Getting a firsthand look at clinical care, patient-physician interactions, and surgeries broadened my perspective on medicine, especially free public healthcare. I am so grateful for the mentors and doctors who let me observe.

On a separate note, I am from Santiago, Chile. I immigrated to the United States young and grew up here, but Chile is a big part of who I am. I often visit my family there during summers.I owe so much to my parents for encouraging me as I pursue my dreams. One saying they shared was:
