CBC is celebrating Hispanic Scientists during Hispanic Heritage Month!

September 15 – October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month.

Did you know that the discovery of vanadium, the role of free radicals in aging, the development of oral contraceptives, and our understanding of ozone formation and decomposition in the stratosphere are all thanks to chemists and biochemists of Hispanic and Latino heritage? That legacy continues today — analytical chemist Luis A. Colón, SUNY Distinguished Professor at the University at Buffalo, was named one of NBC News' standout Latinos of 2024, a C&EN Trailblazer, and the recipient of the 2024 AAAS Lifetime Mentor Award for advancing separation science, while Mexican chemist Grissel Trujillo de Santiago of Tecnológico de Monterrey won the 2024 ACS Emerging Leader in Chemistry Award for inventing chaotic bioprinting, a scalable method for creating layered biomaterials now powering next-generation cultivated meat.
