CBC Alumni Spotlight: Neel Ahmed

Congratulations to Tahsin (Neel) Ahmed, Biochemistry and MCB Class of 2024 recognized for the Young Investigator Award!
"I recently completed my Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology and am now entering my second year as a PhD student in Dr. Haining Zhu’s lab at the University of Arizona. My research focuses on identifying small molecules that promote readthrough of nonsense mutations in the progranulin (PGRN) gene as a potential therapeutic strategy for frontotemporal dementia (FTD). I recently had the honor of presenting my research at the International Research Conference on Neurodegenerative Diseases 2025 in Florida, where my poster was recognized with the Young Investigator Award. This conference brought together leading scientists from around the world who studied neurodegenerative diseases, and it was an incredible opportunity to share my work. It felt rewarding to see my work recognized and it gave me even more motivation to keep pushing forward in my research."
