CBC Continues to celebrate Black History Month by sharing stories of our students.

Ayobami Adegbenrois a first-year PhD student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arizona (UA). Originally from Nigeria, and is excited to be part of the UA community. Ayobami is currently in his third PhD rotation in the Tomasiak lab, where their research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms driving drug resistance in the multidrug-resistant fungal pathogen Candida auris.

Ayobami chose UA because of the department's strong alignment with his research interests, particularly in biochemistry. The faculty members' expertise and research focus made UA the perfect fit for him. After completing his PhD, Ayobami plans to transition into an industry career, applying his biochemistry expertise to develop innovative therapeutic approaches for various diseases. Ayobami’s ultimate goal is to contribute to advancing human health and medicine.
