Jake Shaw presenting at the 2025 BioPhest

Jake Shaw, a CBC undergraduate student, shares his experience at the 2025 BioPhest Conference.
"This semester I had the honor of presenting at BioPhest, a conference hosted by the ASU Center for Biological Physics. After seeing the conference flyer poster in the CBC News, I applied to present a poster to share my work on biophysical simulations applied to drug discovery. A week before the event, I received an unexpected invitation to upgrade from a poster to a 20-minute oral presentation. I jumped at the opportunity to practice my skills conveying my research on a bigger platform to an audience of experts from across Arizona and California.
While attending presentations and poster sessions, I learn about computational models of thermodynamics and biomacromolecules. I was particularly struck by the high level of accuracy some projects achieved through MD simulations, including solvent conditions and membrane lipid composition. Through this experience, I was able to gain exposure to techniques that I was previously unfamiliar with and that could be applied to my current and future research." ~ Jake Shaw
