Alumni Spotlight, Tally Largent-Milnes, BMB BS; MCB BS 2005; W.A. Franke Honors College; Medical Pharmacology PhD 2010

Meet Dr. Tally Largent-Milnes, a professor of Pharmacology who teaches courses for the Medicine major in the College of Medicine –Tucson. Dr. Largent-Milnes’s research interests focus on how disease pathology and pharmacotherapy influence behavior. She teaches PHCL 445: Drugs of Abuse, which is a popular emphasis course in the Basic Medical Sciences emphasis in the Medicine major.

As a member of both the UA Blood Brain Barrier and Pain groups, the Largent-Milnes lab is poised to explore tough questions about CNS disorders, sex differences in presentation, and the resulting implications of pharmacological approaches to mitigate these diseases.

Dr. Largent-Milnes says her research explores the dynamic regulation of the blood-brain barrier during CNS diseases with an emphasis on Pain to better understand therapeutic efficacy and side-effect profiling. Some of her research's ultimate goals include drug design to mitigate pain and reduce adverse events in light of the ongoing opioid epidemic.
