The Inaugural Victor J. Hruby Symposium
Celebrating a Pioneer in Peptide Science
May 21–22, 2026
Health Sciences Innovation Building (HSIB) Forum
University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson
Honoring a Global Leader in Peptide Discovery
For more than 50 years, Dr. Victor J. Hruby, Regents’ Professor Emeritus at the University of Arizona and Founding President of the American Peptide Society, has helped shape the field of peptide chemistry, biology, and drug design.
His research has led to groundbreaking receptor-specific agonists and antagonists targeting melanocortin receptors (MC1R and MC4R) and contributed to FDA-approved therapeutics, including:
- Scenesse® (afamelanotide)
- Vyleesi® (bremelanotide)
- Imcivree® (setmelanotide)
Beyond his scientific achievements, Dr. Hruby has mentored generations of researchers and built a global peptide community that continues to innovate and collaborate across academia and industry. This inaugural symposium celebrates both his scientific legacy and the future of peptide therapeutics.
What to Expect
- 1½ days of scientific exchange and collaboration
- Leaders from academia and industry
- Emerging research in peptide drug discovery
- Networking with the global peptide community
Be Part of the Legacy
In conjunction with the symposium, we are launching efforts to establish the:
Hruby Institute for the Study of Peptides
The Institute will advance:
- Innovative peptide research
- Translational drug development
- Cross-disciplinary collaboration
- Training of the next generation of scientists
Your support helps ensure that Dr. Hruby’s vision continues to drive discovery and therapeutic innovation for decades to come.
