  • This award is available to undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Mathematics and/or the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry.
  • Students must be enrolled full time.
  • Students will be selected based on financial need. The donors' intent is that candidates have the capability and desire to pursue education, but not the financial wherewithal.
  • Students may renew the scholarship if satisfactory progress is shown towards degree completion.

An application must be submitted by students to the selection committee composed of members of the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry, who shall make recommendations to the department head for final selection.

Once the fund reaches the prevailing College of Science minimum, this award will be available to support a post-doctoral fellowship in the Department of Mathematics or the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry. Each candidate must have a sponsoring faculty member. Fellows may engage in the observational, instrumental, theoretical, laboratory, or archival data research in combination with a coherent educational plan in Mathematics or Chemistry/Biochemistry. This post-doctoral fellowship is intended to recognize early-career investigators of significant potential and provide them with experience in research and education that will establish them in positions of distinction and leadership in the community.

Final selection of the Dr. Thomas M. and Candace C. Grogan Post-Doctoral Fellow will be made by the Dean of the College of Science based upon nomination packets submitted by the Department of Mathematics and/or the Department of Chemistry/Biochemistry. Nomination packets should include:

A description of the candidate's post-doctoral research plan,

A letter of recommendation from the sponsoring faculty member, and

A letter of support from the Department Head.

The length of an individual's post-doctoral fellowship can vary but will not exceed 4 years. Prioritization will be given to students with financial need.
