CBC Student Spotlight: Alicia Krusee

Meet Alicia Krusee, a CBC Biochemistry Junior!
"My name is Alicia and I am currently an undergraduate junior studying biochemistry. I am a part of the Thaker laboratory here on campus. My laboratory mentor and I conduct cellular and biochemical experiments on human-derived podocyte cells which are a type of kidney cell that we use to study the effects of ADCK4 on CoQ10 biosynthesis primarily in the mitochondria of the cell and how this process changes in kidney disease. I am excited to learn more in the upcoming months about fluorescence imaging to obtain photographs of cellular components that we visualize using fluorescent probes. After graduation I plan to continue on to get my Pharmacy PhD and, in the future, work as a hospital pharmacist. If you're considering joining an undergraduate research laboratory, I highly recommend doing so! I have met a lot of talented and helpful individuals as well as gained a foundational set of knowledge from my time in the Thaker lab."
