Sophye Carrizales
My name is Sophye Carrizales, and I am currently majoring in Biochemistry. I started attending UArizona in Fall semester of 2021. I graduated from Yuma Catholic in the Spring of 2021.
After I graduate I hope to apply to medical school and graduate with my Doctor of Medicine. I have always had a passion for science ever since I was young and inspired by many various people. I will continue to strive for my goals in academics and to be the best version of myself.
October Owen
October is the oldest of four girls, and is the first of her sisters to attend a university. She followed in her parents’ footsteps by choosing to attend the University of Arizona, drawn by the prominence of research at the U of A and by the promising chemistry program.
Her parents are not able to provide much of the monetary support she needs to attend this institution, so the Hefferan scholarship will be a crucial resource that allows her to focus on excelling as a student so she can become a valuable contributor to the work force as a chemist.
