Abstract
All standard textbooks on quantum mechanics motivate the need for and rely on the Hamiltonian to be Hermitian. In this talk, I will introduce the notion of non-Hermitian quantum mechanics and what new perspectives one might gain from investigating non-Hermitian microscopic systems, with a diverse set of new phenomena. I will suggest some ideas for new realizations and delineate where LabMontiTM is starting to contribute in this area.

Oliver Monti leads a research team focused on understanding electronic and magnetic structure of novel materials and their quantum transport and ultrafast dynamics. The groups interests range from quantum materials to hybrid organic/inorganic systems. In his spare time, he rough-houses with his dog Zepto, hikes or pedals up and down steep hills.
