CBC Student Spotlight: Zach Stebner
Congratulations to Zach Stebner, Chemistry Major and American Sign Language Minor who was selected for the Spring 2023 ACS-Hach Land Grant Scholar for Chemistry Teachers!
Zach, why do I want to be a Chemistry Teacher?
“It’s not to teach chemistry. It’s not to be rich and famous. Chemistry and teaching are both passions of mine. I excel in my chemistry courses, as you can see from my unofficial transcript.
“I have numerous teaching experiences that I can’t fit into this two-page essay. I know that ten years from now, I will be a chemistry teacher. However, I want to be the person that teaches other people how to be good, well-rounded, humans. Humans that know how to use common sense, how to work with others, and how to advocate for themselves. That’s the real teacher I want to become.
“My new expected year to graduate is December of 2023. I plan on taking supplementary courses at the University of Arizona in the Fall of 2023, in addition to the final course I need to complete to graduate.
“These supplementary courses would focus on chemistry and/or education. After I graduate, I want to obtain my master’s in teaching.
“My plan is to apply for the Secondary Education Teaching Program with an emphasis on Chemistry at the University of Washington. It is a yearlong accelerated master’s program. The program pairs me with a chemistry teacher at a Title I school in the Seattle area.
“I don’t know what my future will look like in a year. I focus on taking life one step at a time.”
