Wael Almasri

Wael AlmsariBorn outside the US, Wael moved to the United States at age four. He transferred to the U of A from community college and is majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Psychology. In the spring of 2020, he joined Dr. Nicholas Strausfeld’s neuroscience lab, where he focuses on the arthropod visual system and the evolution of brains as well as focusing on allocentric memory, action selection, and patterns of neuronal centers mediating visual perception. These studies were mainly focused on Mantis Shrimp, a unique and interesting carnivorous crustacean, as well as crabs. Outside of school, Wael volunteers at Tucson Medical Center and at the U of A COVID-19 Vaccination Pods, and is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as being a CBC Peer Mentor. After graduating in May 2022, he plans on going to medical school to follow his dream of becoming a doctor, and potentially a surgeon. In his free time, Wael loves watching sports, cooking, hiking, listening to music, and most importantly, quality time with friends and family.
