Jessica Forelli has been awarded the American Chemical Society Hach Land Grant Scholarship for Chemistry Teachers for Fall 2017. Established by the Hach Scientific Foundation in 1982 to encourage students to pursue chemistry at the undergraduate level, the Foundation now has narrowed its focus in response to the high need of chemistry educators at the secondary level.
Jessy is a triple major in Biochemistry, Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Spanish with a minor in Mathematics. She conducts research in Dr. Lynch's lab where she analyzes fluorescent islet images using software that detects overall insulin production. She also works at OSIRIS-REx in the Lunar and Planetary Science Lab where she characterizes asteroids using color photometry. Jessy has always been interested in teaching as she loves sharing her enthusiasm for science. Through her experience as a teacher for the after-school math club at Roskruge Magnet Bilingual Middle School, she became serious about educating the younger generation on important STEM topics.
