This summer Vivian Mendoza-Leon participated in the Summer Health Professions Education Program at UCLA where she was able to work on an interdisciplinary team with students in different health profession tracks on a health disparity project.
The team chose a specific health disparity and population to create a hypothetical intervention for in order to reduce the disparity, and at the end they presented it to UCLA/CDU faculty and staff. The students also had Problem Based Learning cases every week with either a medical/dental/nursing student which was really fun. Vivian was able to connect with physicians who are also minorities and with students from around the country. This experience motivated Vivian to continue working hard to pursue a career in medicine to advocate for the health of populations that are under-resourced.
