CBC Outreach Welcomed a Group of 5th Graders from Cottonwood Elementary School

On March 4th, CBC Outreach welcomed a group of 5th grade students from Cottonwood Elementary School. The small group of students were guided through the department by the CBC Ambassadors and were shown glass blowing demonstrations from the glass blowing shop, Imaging demonstrations on an Atomic Force Microscope, and a Scanning Electron Microscope that one lucky student got to sit at the controls and actually run the microscope. They also got to tour Dr. Jean-Luc Bredas’ molecular visualization cave, where they got to see large scale 3-D images of molecules.     

After lunch, they were treated to a Chemistry Magic Show put on by Paul Lee with ChemClub/SMACS presenters Leo Russo and Delia Riley. A Question-and-Answer session followed with some very challenging questions offered by the students.
