My name is Michael Dzierlenga. I am a doctoral candidate at the U of A with a major in physical chemistry and a minor in biochemistry. I am currently working on my dissertation and expect to defend it in the summer of 2016. In my research, I use computational methods to investigate the activity of enzymes; in particular, our group is interested in how the dynamics of enzymes affects the way that they catalyze reactions. In my published work, I have investigated quantum tunnelling effects in enzymatic particle transfer reactions and worked on the understanding of solvation on a microscopic scale. In my free time, I enjoy playing the guitar and hiking in the beautiful mountains around Tucson.
