My name is Philip Dirlam, I grew up in a small town in rural MN and after high school made a prompt escape to the west coast. I completed my B.S. in chemistry and M.S. in polymer science at Cal Poly in beautiful San Luis Obispo, CA under Prof. Philip Costanzo. As I was finishing up at Cal Poly I took a summer research position here at the University of Arizona with Prof. Jeffrey Pyun and pretty much never left. Now I am in my 5th year of the PhD program in chemistry at the U of A. I have had a gratifying experience conducting research in the field of materials chemistry focused on developing next generation electrochemical energy storage technology. In my free time, if there is such a thing as a grad student, I enjoy cooking and brewing beer (really just experiments you get to eat and drink with friends when they're done!). Looking forward, I plan on defending at the end of the month and have secured a postdoc position at the University of Minnesota.
