AXS - Activities


Professional/Outreach Activities:

  • Organize and cook for both the Department-Wide Welcome BBQ in conjunction with the Annual CBC Research Symposium and the Graduate Student Visitation Weekend BBQ's.

  • Run the bi-annual PPE and Notebook Sale with the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) chapter at the University of Arizona (SMACS Web Page).

  • Help judge science fair posters at local elementary, middle and high schools as well as judge posters at both the Annual CBC Undergraduate Fair & Poster Contest and the Biological, Engineering, and Chemical Undergraduate Research (BECUR) Conference

  • Perform chemistry demo shows as part of both the UoA Family Weekend event as well as the Flandrau Science Center Halloween Spooktacular.

  • Travel to local elementary schools to perform hands-on demos with students and parents alike as part of "Science Nights"

  • Host a booth with various hands-on demos in Science City at the Tucson Festival of Books as well as provide information about careers in the chemical sciences.

Social Activities:

  • Host and organize an annual trip before classes start to go tubing on the Salt River in Phoenix.

  • Help organize and assembly the Annual CBC@UA! Picnic in October.

  • Host the annual Beta Tau Christmas party.

  • Host various cookouts/parties during the semester. Such events are typically announced through our list-serve.

  • Host a semi-annual hike in Sabino Canyon.
