Allison Smith

Allison SmithI am currently in my third year of the Chemistry Ph.D. program at the University of Arizona. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Linfield College, McMinnville, OR in 2017 with a B.S. in Chemistry. At Linfield I investigated the use of Ag and lipid coated Au nanoparticles with BRIGHTs (Bilayered Raman-Intense Gold nanostructure with Hidden Tags) for delivery agents therapeutics. In the fall of 2017 I joined the Steven D. Schwartz group where we utilize theoretical and computational chemistry to model the cardiac thin filament. Using molecular dynamics, we can uncover and begin to understand the atomic changes in conformation and dynamics that are occurring due to genetic single-point cardiac thin filament mutations that cause various cardiomyopathies. Outside of my research I am also involved in Alpha Chi Sigma and PAWS (Program to Advance Women Scientists).
